The Prattville High School Girls Soccer team continued their winning ways in the Cullman High School Varsity Girls Soccer Tournament on March 19th with a 1-0 win over East Limestone. Despite the low score, The Lady Lions controlled the game by possessing the ball nearly 80% of the time. Through exceptional midfield and forward play from Hannah Godwin, Holly Behr, Shannon O’Brian, Hannah Long, Lauren O’Brian, Kayla Gandy, Summer Mooney, Sydney Smith, Sydney Owens and Rachel Anderson, the Lady Lions’ exquisite passing and movement kept the East Limestone team chasing the ball throughout the match. Summer Mooney got the only goal of the game and her fifth goal of the tournament in the 12th minute off of a wonderful one-two combination from Shannon O’Brian and Hannah Godwin. She blasted a shot into the lower left corner of the net from 25 yards out. Despite getting 11 more shots on goal, the Lady Lions were unable to score again. The backline play of Ally Doty, Meri-Margaret Fank, Kourtney Presor, Shayla McWhorter, and Lauren O’Brian keep the East Limestone attack in check and they were never in jeopardy of giving up a goal. Daniele Ewert continued her stellar play as she improved her overall record to 9-0-1 with two saves. Because of the win, the Lady Lions advanced to the finals of the Cullman Tournament later in the day in a rematch against Oxford.
