Daphne vs. Chelsea, 3-2 Win – Tuesday March 26 7:00 Chelsea, Alabama
Daphne High built a 2-0 lead in the first half by controlling possession of the ball and held off Chelsea with defense that continued to deny Chelsea’s aggressive second half runs for a 3-2 win on a frigid Tuesday night.
Daphne’s Jackson Stoppa headed the ball in on a corner kick from Josh Gurvitz, during a period of heavy first-half pressure. Jackson Barber scored on short shot as Daphne pressured the goal to increase the lead to 2-0.
Chelsea cut the lead to 2-1 in the second half on a breakaway goal. Chelsea sent a long kick up field and it’s forward got behind the Trojan defense avoiding an apparent offsides call to gather in the pass, shoot and score from the middle. Levi Ehmka increased the margin back to two on a quick-hitting run down the middle past a defender and ripping a shot into the goal from about 20 yards out.
Chelsea answered, maneuvering the ball in front of Daphne’s goal, then in heavy traffic finding a seam to get off a short shot and pull within 3-2. Trojan goalkeeper Will Carpenter made a couple of impressive saves off strong Chelsea shots to preserve the win, and defenders Tyler Cook, Sam Seawell and Joe Lieb repeatedly shut down Chelsea offensive runs throughout the night.
